NCHER Bill, 2010

The constitution of NCHER suggested by  NCHER  Bill is one of the important and essential things initiated recently by Union Government. In the era of interdisciplinary subjects gaining importance in various fields such as Bio-informatics, Bio-technology, e-Learning, BIO-Chemistry, Bio-physics etc it is high time we have all the subjects under one umbrella.

Here I would like to mention the hardship faced by me when I was approached by many college professors to guide them for doing Ph.D. in e-learning. As I had already blogged about this under the title ‘Research in Inter-Disciplinary Area (ELearning)’ an Educationist with eLearning background or IT professional with sufficient background in learning theories can act as Ph.D guide for eLearning.

But since education and engineering come under different bodies, the Universities were unable to let an Educationist with IT expertise guide the students as they could not realize, it is an inter-disciplinary area.

Most of the students / college professors who approached me still could not pursue Ph.D in Elearning as they have not come across the guide with expertise in that domain.

The concept of industry experts / consultants as visiting faculty to guide the students for M.Phil  and Ph.D. should happen for all disciplines and not for engineering and management subjects alone.

I could not honour the wishes of many college principals who wanted me to handle educational technology or any other  paper for M.Ed and M.Phil  as there is no legal provision to accept such jobs on visiting basis. This may be applicable to other subjects as well.

Special weightage must be given to Ph.Ds with industry / consultancy experience as they would be exposed to challenging assignments more frequently.

Bringing all the subjects under one body would to some extent help reduce the problems I‘ve mentioned.
